Blog About Web Design
I love to tinker with my website in an attempt to make it the best it can be. For me, if I visit a site that is visually non pleasing I don’t usually go back. I like a clean layout with a few graphics that really stand out. As much as I like to play around with my own layouts I am in no way a graphic designer.
First off I have no formal education on the subject. Secondly, I always manage to find someone who is better than I am, knows more than I am, and thought of the idea first. For those very reasons I hesitate to call myself anything but an amateur playing around with a hobby. Unfortunately just about every other site I venture onto has someone claiming to be a designer and often offering services for monetary compensation to others.
This bugs me and I’m not alone. Taking a look at All Your Skillsets Are Belong To Us? the general feeling from the author is that web design is in no way graphic design. In fact the entire blog is geared toward the peculiar, vocal, and most over-represented things on the web.
For now I’m afraid we’ll have to deal with a new crop of self proclaimed graphic artists and designers every time a teenager gets a computer and makes a website. The only thing that keeps me from telling them how truly stupid they look is coming across a fresh looking site where the designer actually knows the ins and outs of what they are doing.
